Hakata

Airport · Subway

Domestic and international terminals share one building. Next is the subway to Hakata — not a taxi to Dazaifu off the plane.

Station · Shinkansen

Shinkansen, JR, subway and the Hakata-exit malls stack here. Chikushi-guchi is the other face — do not get lost and backtrack.

Exit · Bus

The south exit. If you sleep on this side, do not loop out the Hakata exit for a taxi.

Mall · Station

The station department store and its roof view. Keep this or Hankyu — not both as the spine.

Department · Souvenir

The Hakata-exit department store. Mentaiko and souvenirs are downstairs — then leave. Do not add a Tenjin department store.

Retail · Station

The old post office turned retail block, just outside the Hakata exit. A short supply stop — not the day.

Underground · Bento

The in-station underground linking the gates and Hakata exit. Buy water and a bento between trains — it is not the destination.

Character · In station

The character-shop strip inside the station. Only if you already know what to buy — do not spend the Kushida or Canal City half-day here.

Canal · Mall

The mall the canal runs through. A fair rain-day spine — do not also do Tenjin Underground.

Museum · Asia

Inside Riverain, for contemporary Asia. On a Canal City day this is the one museum — not also Kyushu National Museum.

River · Culture

The cultural block on the Naka River; the Asian Art Museum is inside. After the museum, follow the river to Nakasu — do not return to Hakata Station.

Shrine · Quiet

Hakata’s Sumiyoshi shrine, quieter than Kushida. Closer from Chikushi exit. After this, the station or Tochoji — not a second deep shrine the same day.

Temple · Buddha

The wooden Buddha and the lookout. On a Gion day this is the one temple in depth — Shofukuji becomes a pass-by.

Zen · Garden

One of Japan’s oldest Zen temples. The garden is quiet — do not stack it in the same hour as Tochoji’s lookout.

Temple town · History

Where soba and manju are said to have arrived; Gokusho is the front street. See the gate and stones — not a third temple in depth.

Garden · Quiet

The small garden beside Canal City. If you want ten quiet minutes after the mall, come here — not another mall.

Port · Pier

The pier mall on Hakata Port. Busy on cruise days; otherwise a short bay stop. Do not share dusk with Fukuoka Tower.

Ferry · Port

The international ferry terminal, including the Busan route. Make it the spine only if you are sailing; otherwise Bayside is enough.

Hall · Event

The waterfront hall. Do not detour without a ticket; only a port day with an event belongs here.
