Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macao
WiNG · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
The hardest building on the peninsula to mistake for anything else. Use it as a landmark and a bearing; the gaming floor is not a sight, and there is no reason to walk in just to look.
Best time
Best photographed once the façade lighting is fully up; by day it is just a bearing.
How to go
Praça Ferreira do Amaral beside it is the peninsula's main bus hub; about ten minutes on foot to Senado Square.
Tips
- · Gaming areas are restricted to 21 and over; ID is checked at the door and minors may not pass through even in transit
- · Photography and video are prohibited on the gaming floor — do not raise a phone camera there
- · Cash machines inside enforce identity and facial-recognition checks with daily withdrawal caps — do not count on unlimited cash
- · Responsible-gambling information points and helpline details are posted here and in every Macau casino

Where this line goes next
Walk the slope, or take a bus or shuttle to the next sight, hall or bakery. Do not backtrack.

Avenida de Lisboa
Two generations of Lisboa face each other across the road: the point is the two silhouettes, not going in.
Senado Square
Walk · 8min
West up Calçada da Sé
Photograph the exterior then walk back into the old town to eat — eight uphill minutes, and a taxi is slower.
