River traffic on the Chao Phraya in Bangkok (Tha Chang pier of Chao Phraya Express), Thailand.

Tha Chang is the palace boat door. You stop to enter the walls, or to cross toward Wang Lang and the barges — not both in one half-day. A palace day: off the boat, dress, through the gate. A west-bank day: cross from here to Wat Rakhang, Wang Lang or the barges, then stop. Do not decide at Tha Chang that Chatuchak is 'on the way'.
Best time
Read the flag before you board. The orange line is the express commuter boat, not the tourist boat. Fares follow the operator's table that day; if the weekend differs, follow the pier.
How to go
The Grand Palace is a walk inland. MRT Sanam Chai is the way that does not cross.
Tips
- · The operator lists Oriental Pier (N1) closed for renovation. Do not wait for that stop.
