Macao Museum of Art
Abasaa · Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A city-history museum built into the body of Monte Fort. See it before walking the heritage route and the streets start making sense.
Best time
Rain or the hottest part of the afternoon; there is a weekly closing day — check it.
How to go
Climb from behind the Ruins, or take the museum lift straight up to the fort level.
Tips
- · The exit opens onto the fort garden — sequence it that way and you skip a climb
- · The permanent galleries need about ninety minutes — do not arrive forty minutes before closing
Next stop
Where this line goes next
Walk the slope, or take a bus or shuttle to the next sight, hall or bakery. Do not backtrack.
Camões Garden
Walk · 12min
Downhill west
History indoors, then downhill to present-day Macau under the banyans — not back into the façade crowd.
São Lázaro quarter
Walk · 10min
Downhill east toward São Lázaro
After the galleries, drop east into the quiet yellow-walled streets — better than twenty more minutes at the façade.
