The tart worth waiting for is the hot tray
The original Coloane shop almost always has a queue, and whether it is worth joining depends on whether you want the tray straight from the oven. If you simply want a tart, Taipa and the peninsula have branches and rivals. Eat it where you buy it — do not carry one around for two hours in a rucksack.
One old room, one new room
Old tea rooms and bakeries cluster around the avenue and Three Lamps — cheap, and nobody rushes you. The newer coffee shops sit in Taipa village and the peninsula’s side lanes, small rooms with limited pastry runs. One of each per day is plenty; this is not a checklist.
Use them as heat and rain shelters
Slot cafés into midday and the afternoon storm window and you absorb the two worst hours of the day. Small shops change hours and rest days often, so check whether a place is open on the day — especially around Lunar New Year.
