Trafalgar Square at evening

Nelson and the National Gallery share one square — do not split them into two rides. Next is National Gallery — do not also stack the British Museum the same day.
Analysis
Split the exterior of Trafalgar Square from the interior. Square all day; fountains and the Fourth Plinth follow the exhibition. Security queues start outside the door; wear flats. On a day the exterior is free, do not buy the interior just for a photo. Leave via Charing Cross.
Best time
Morning, or a weekday between exhibitions
How to go
Tube to Charing Cross or Leicester Square
Transit
At Charing Cross for Trafalgar Square, match the street name before you walk. With luggage, do not change at a deep-stair station. Keep one train before the last one back to the hotel.
Season window
Guard changes, ceremonies and public holidays close roads around Trafalgar Square. Summer noon glare is harsh; winter dusk is early — take the exterior in the morning.
Tips
- · Tickets: Free. Plan about 30 minutes.
- · The pigeons are not the point; the column and fountains are
- · Large liquids fail security at Trafalgar Square. Coach parties take the pavement; walk in from the side street.
