State Rooms open only in set months; watch the Guard from the railings. Next is St James's Park — do not also stack the British Museum the same day.
Analysis
Split the exterior of Buckingham Palace from the interior. State Rooms roughly 09:30–19:00 in summer; other months the interior is often closed. Security queues start outside the door; wear flats. On a day the exterior is free, do not buy the interior just for a photo. Leave via Victoria.
Best time
Arrive before the morning Guard
How to go
Tube to Victoria or Green Park, then walk
Transit
At Victoria for Buckingham Palace, match the street name before you walk. With luggage, do not change at a deep-stair station. Keep one train before the last one back to the hotel.
Season window
Guard changes, ceremonies and public holidays close roads around Buckingham Palace. Summer noon glare is harsh; winter dusk is early — take the exterior in the morning.
Tips
- · Tickets: High: State Rooms are on the official site — do not freeze a guide number; the Guard outside is free. Plan about 75 minutes.
- · Security queues run long; wear flats
- · Large liquids fail security at Buckingham Palace. Coach parties take the pavement; walk in from the side street.
