The Tokugawa castle in Kyoto; the nightingale floors chirp. Ninomaru Garden takes its own time. Pick this or Kinkaku-ji for a castle-and-garden half-day — not both plus Kiyomizu.
Best time
Morning light. Some interiors close Monday.
How to go
City bus or subway “二條城前”. Tap ICOCA or PiTaPa. A city-bus day pass is bus only — not subway or JR.
Tips
- · The Tokugawa castle in Kyoto; the nightingale floors chirp. Ninomaru Garden takes its own time. Pick this or Kinkaku-ji for a castle-and-garden half-day — not both plus Kiyomizu.
- · One axis a day. Do not stack Higashiyama, Arashiyama, Fushimi, Kinkaku and Ginkaku.
- · Cherry, maple and night events follow the season. Not the same day as Kinkaku or Arashiyama.
