Merdeka / Petaling Street

Square

The padang and flagpole framed by colonial buildings. This day is the river and Petaling Street — do not chase the Twin Towers at dusk.

Architecture

The red-brick clockfront across the padang. The building site says the grounds are open and the galleries are inside, daily 8:00–22:00. Royal Selangor Gallery is free; KL City Gallery is free for Malaysians, and other tickets follow the desk. Still the first stretch of the river day — not a new sight.

Mosque

The mosque where the Klang and Gombak meet; onion domes and river steps start this axis. Non-Muslim hours and dress follow that day's notice.

River

The lit riverwalk from Masjid Jamek to Central Market. Keep the blue hour here — do not add a tower.

Souvenirs

The craft hall beside Kasturi Walk — souvenirs and air-con in one old building. Buy, then enter Petaling Street; do not rebound to KLCC.

Temple

The Chinese temple at the mouth of Petaling Street; incense and murals predate the night stalls. Visit by day, walk the market at night.

Night market

The covered night-market spine, copies and snacks mixed together. It is the evening of the Merdeka day, not all of Kuala Lumpur.

Hokkien mee

The Hokkien mee of this Petaling Street meal. You are still under this covered market, not in another city.

Hindu temple

The South Indian temple beside Petaling Street; the gopuram is the clearest façade on this lane. Guan Di and Sin Sze Si Ya are the same alley — finish and stop.

Temple

The Guan Di temple inside Petaling Street — small, and exactly on the night-market line. After it, eat on the main street; do not add a mall.

Mosque

The starred roof and reflecting pool, at the west end of the Merdeka walk. Rules follow that day's notice; the museums are next, not Bukit Bintang.

Museum

The Islamic arts museum beside the National Mosque — domes and galleries for a wet hour. Go deep in this or the National Museum, not both plus Batu Caves.

Museum

The national history museum, mural façade on the lake gardens. Between Brickfields and Merdeka — the indoor hour of this day, not an airport-day add-on.

Aviary

The big walk-in aviary on the lake gardens — a family half-day under netting. Do not stack it on the same tired hour as Petaling Street.

Exterior only

Street-level exterior only. The observation deck and 118 Mall are not confirmed open — do not treat them as places you can enter. The independent stadium beside it is open; the hotel is Park Hyatt.

Stadium

The independent stadium beside 118, already open. Seats matter on event days; otherwise the exterior and the streets are enough. Not the deck, and not a mall.
