柳川／筑後

Shinkansen · Chikugo

The shinkansen stop in Chikugo. You can change for Yanagawa, but Nishitetsu from Tenjin to Yanagawa is often simpler.

Nishitetsu · Yanagawa

The stop for the water town. Bus from the station to the canals — do not force the whole way on foot.

Canals · Boat

The water town itself. The boat is why this axis exists. Bridges alone are not enough.

Punt · One hour

About an hour in a punt. One ride on a Yanagawa day — not a second night cruise.

Garden · Residence

The Tachibana residence and garden, also an inn. The garden is a ticket. Staying and visiting are not the same line.

Castle site · 水

The castle is gone; water and stone remain. Go deep here or in the Ohana garden.

Unagi · ランチ

The unagi rooms of Yanagawa. Eat here after the punt — do not add Hakata ramen as a second main meal.

JR · Kurume

The JR hub of Chikugo. Shinkansen or Kagoshima Line from Hakata. Suitengu changes here — do not also force Yanagawa the same day.

Shrine · Suitengu

The Suitengu of Kyushu. The shrine of a Kurume day — not the same day as Dazaifu Tenmangu.

Shrine · Chikugo

An old Chikugo shrine. If Suitengu is already on a Kurume day, this is only if you still have time.

White walls · Merchants

The white-walled merchant town. Not the same day as Yanagawa’s water. The walls need their own afternoon.

Memorial · Chikugo

The peace museum on the old airfield. An indoor stop on a Chikugo day — not paired with a Yanagawa punt.
